Well known as the bass guitarist for the Jerry Garcia Band, John also accompanied Jerry in his work in art. The two spent many quiet hours working on their paintings and learning etching together. John’s work was exhibited with Jerry’s at their first art opening at the Weir Gallery in 1990.
This large (30″ x 36″) painting shows the band’s view of the audience, with all its variety and eccentricity. Our perspective is from behind the band, whose members are recognizable; Jerry far left, John, Drummer David Kemper and Melvin Seals on keyboards.
This is the original painting, in watercolor and gouache on heavy paper. It is in mint condition and signed lower right.
